I’m sure most people know about our renowned wine region, down south as we call it. Famed not only for its wines but food offerings and great surf. For those who don’t, it’s a good 3.5 hours drive south of Perth where you pass other beautiful holiday, eating and drinking towns such as Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup in our southwest.

I’m sure that if you Google Margaret River or WA’s southwest region, it will give you a wealth of information on what you can do, places of interest, wineries, breweries, eateries and must do tips. Not to mention, there are a host of cheese, chocolates, olive oil and arts and craft delights to fill your days too. Continue Reading…

Melbourne – August 2019 and Six Years Ago

October 8, 2019

We were well overdue for a trip to Melbourne. The last time we ventured to Melbourne was when we wanted to eat at the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld. Dunkeld is a picturesque town at the southern end of the Grampians National Park in Victoria. That was six years ago.

Off to Melbourne we went, stayed overnight at the Parkroyal Hotel so we can pick up our hire car at the airport to drive to Dunkeld. It is between three and four hours drive depending on which route you take. The drive is lovely, through Victorian towns and the picturesque Victorian countryside.

Since it was so long ago, our memories are a bit scarce. However, I can tell you that we had accommodation across the road from the Royal Mail Hotel. Simple cottages yet more than comfortable for an overnight stay after a multi-course meal. At that time, the population was not more than 400 permanent residents. Continue Reading…

Rockford Paddle Steamer Cruise, Mannum – July 2019

August 11, 2019

We love to drink Rockford wines. I think most people know that. When I heard about a cruise that members may be able to participate in, on a weekend that is hosted by Rockford, I made a point of trying to get on board. Well, got on board I did, with a two year wait.

So fast forward two years and the time finally came. Before getting a berth on the P.S Marion, a 1897 steam paddle boat, I did not really think much about being on an original paddle steamer. I was just excited about all the Rockford I would be privileged to be drinking that whole weekend. Continue Reading…

European (short) Adventure – London, Madrid & Singapore April 2019

June 13, 2019

I caught wind mid last year that this year, you could take three days of annual leave and enjoy 10 days of break over the Easter and ANZAC public holiday period. So, it got me thinking, where can we go for 10 days?

I must first say that, this would have been an expensive trip if we did not have frequent flyer points to utilize so this is little adventure to Europe could only happen because of our bank of frequent flyer points.

Now where should we go….. Continue Reading…

Any excuse to go to Singapore and I am in like Flynn….I’ve said that before. This time, it was due to expiring points and who am to complain??? So we chose to take advantage of the June long weekend to bleed another day in Singapore using our points for flights and accommodation. Continue Reading…

What do you do when you have a Jetstar credit voucher to use before it expires and not a whole lot of time to go anywhere for long? We ended up choosing to do a quick weekend away to the Barossa as it is the closest place to fly to from Perth…well, Adelaide that is. Continue Reading…

Singapore March 2018

April 6, 2018

Any excuse to go to Singapore and I am in like Flynn. My cousin was getting married so as soon as I knew the date, it was booked. I get terribly excited because I’ve already planned where I would eat what. And of course which shops I would hit for the obligatory buy and run on Orchard Road. Continue Reading…

San Sebastian was breathtaking, we thought, how can this be beaten? We did not really have any expectations of Malta so let’s go…. Next stop, Malta it is! Our adventures were clearly not over yet…..

Flying to Malta from San Sebastian was a little cumbersome but options were limited so there is not much you can do about that. First to Barcelona, then check in again to another flight to Malta. When we arrived it was nearly midnight, with a plane load of people all scrambling for taxis at the same time, it seems a bit messy at that time of the night. However, they do have a taxi booking counter which seemed to run like clockwork. Soon, we arrived at our hotel, right on the water at St Julian’s, the Carvalia Art Hotel. Continue Reading…

Singapore, Hawker Food Hunt – November 2017

November 16, 2017

Don’t ever say to me you miss Singapore. Because I may just book flights and accommodation so we can satisfy the void you feel about missing this lovely country. And so it happened one relaxing weekend, my husband barely uttered those words and we were booked to go two weekends later. Continue Reading…
