I’m sure most people know about our renowned wine region, down south as we call it. Famed not only for its wines but food offerings and great surf. For those who don’t, it’s a good 3.5 hours drive south of Perth where you pass other beautiful holiday, eating and drinking towns such as Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup in our southwest.

I’m sure that if you Google Margaret River or WA’s southwest region, it will give you a wealth of information on what you can do, places of interest, wineries, breweries, eateries and must do tips. Not to mention, there are a host of cheese, chocolates, olive oil and arts and craft delights to fill your days too. Continue Reading…


Melbourne – August 2019 and Six Years Ago

We were well overdue for a trip to Melbourne. The last time we ventured to Melbourne was when we wanted to eat at the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld. Dunkeld is a picturesque town at the southern end of the Grampians National Park in Victoria. That was six years ago.

Off to Melbourne we went, stayed overnight at the Parkroyal Hotel so we can pick up our hire car at the airport to drive to Dunkeld. It is between three and four hours drive depending on which route you take. The drive is lovely, through Victorian towns and the picturesque Victorian countryside.

Since it was so long ago, our memories are a bit scarce. However, I can tell you that we had accommodation across the road from the Royal Mail Hotel. Simple cottages yet more than comfortable for an overnight stay after a multi-course meal. At that time, the population was not more than 400 permanent residents. Continue Reading…

Wildflower September 2018

This is not your everyday place to dine…..however, if I had my way, I’d dine there once a week! We had dined previously on a couple of other occasions for lunch and dinner and have thoroughly enjoyed our experiences. I read about this place recently as a new concept style of dining and was so glad one of our favourite friends decided to pick it for his birthday (well, his wife did). His wife’s colleague had been recently and could not stop raving about it so off we booked to celebrate his birthday.

The concept is “trust the chef” to tailor a degustation menu for you by asking you to choose the extent you wish to spend per head starting at $100 per head up to $500 per head. The more you choose to spend, the more extravagant the ingredients would be. Continue Reading…

Knee Deep March 2018

Like we have said before “To us, this place always reminds us of great food. Food so great that it is always been hard to get into, unless you are super organized.”

Update: Our New Year’s Eve Dinner December 2018

It’s never a difficult decision when deciding to dine at this place or not. When we were aware they were open for New Year’s Eve, the decision was simple, and so we decided an early dinner would be fitting before we participated in further celebratory festivities.

This restaurant did not fail in delivering course after course in deliciousness. The service was delightful, even as the crowd streamed in steadily. We were all reminded of our previous enjoyable dining experience there and left more than happy to continue our New Year’s Eve celebrations. Do try and experience this delightful French eatery if you haven’t already. And if you have, do it again….and again…..Happy New Year to All!We’d ventured to this delightful place a few years ago and enjoyed their degustation offerings. From memory, it wowed us with its delicious servings, lovely atmosphere and we walked out of there really full of wonderful memories of the palate and tummy.

We’ve always wanted to venture back and so it appeared on our radar again so off we went for a Friday after work meal. Mind you, this isn’t an eat and run affair, although they did not drag out each course either. Continue Reading…

We have tasted Herb’s food at various events he had catered at and have loved it. Restaurant Amusé – September 2012, 2013 & 2016

The first time we went to Amusé was pretty much the first of many degustation experiences with my then fiancé (now the other half of The Synergist) where we were in full throttle on ticking off our food exploration list.

We had heard so much about this place and how amazing the food was so we had to give it a bash for ourselves, and bashed three times we did. As I am writing this blog in late 2017, they have now since closed.   There has been talk that they are tired of running such a full on husband and wife business and may open something a little bit more casual down the track. So me thinks, you will hear more from husband and wife team Hadleigh and Carolynne Troy and when they appear somewhere, it will be well worth checking out their culinary talents even though you may have missed Amuse.
